Oct 22, 2009 The question revolves around: How would you express the hope of the gospel if you only had 30 seconds? I can tell you over a lifetime, or even perhaps during a sermon, but what if both of us didn't have that amount of time? How do you distill the essense of what we believe into something palatable, short and to the point? Jesus was the master at this with His short parables and teachings. Today, everyone is in a hurry. It seems we have little time for the things that matter most. Like our families, for example. Or, like finding quality time for God. Still, if the good news message can hold your attention for just 30 seconds, then that it might just be enough to help rethink just what we're doing and where we're going and what really matters in life.
|
|
Oct 14, 2009 We'll also shortly be uploading a series of new photos taken at the General Conference in Anglesea, and festival in Caloundra. We currently editing a 30 minute sermon titled "Rivers of Living Water". This is a must-see film, sharing one of the most relevant and profound truths that Jesus taught some 2000 years ago. Order your copy now on DVD.
|
|
Sept 27, 2009 Greetings are also extended to all during this festival season, the Feast of Tabernacles, as Christians gather to worship and celebrate all Jesus has done, is doing, and has promised in His Kingdom. The MessageWeek Ministries offices in Northam, WA, will re-open on October 14, 2009.
|
|
Sept 4, 2009 If God Himself were to speak a few words to you, what might He say? Well, we can start with the words of Jesus, already recorded for us. But more specific than that, what He might say to you would probably affect your life from that moment onwards. But, would you listen, I mean really listen? In this new series of short films, we have explored some new ground. Ten or so years ago we produced short films that averaged around three minutes duration. Later, these developed into 7-8 minute films that better suited local television. Television time is expensive to purchase, and we can only afford to purchase it in 30 second packages. That's why these films are just 30 seconds in duration.
A special thanks to Bill Hicks for his help and work in writing two of the scripts. It is our prayer that the next three short films may help those who seek Rest to find it; those who need Good News to hear it, and those wanting truth to finally understand.
|
|
August 8, 2009 Watch this short film now. In fact, this film needs to go beyond the churches and be screened in our local communities, high schools, theatres, clinics, hospitals, and houses of parliament.

August 1, 2009 Next week, we present one of the most important and challenging films ever to define the future of our people and society in general. |

July 4, 2009 This week we upload Part II of our interview with Bill Hicks. Titled "Youth, Mission & Growth", we hope you enjoy and benefit from this series of interviews. We're also working on some short "byte" sized films -- which ideally suits the nature of media streaming. These short "bytes" will of course be complimented and interspersed by longer gospel films.

May 15, 2009 In the past few years we have been evaluating the effectiveness of our technical work within the local community. The work involved in MessageWeek has increased over the past few years, and we believe this to be a valuable investment worth pursuing. So, we're going to make some changes. Classic IT Support will for now continue with its technical services but at a reduced, manageable level. This will enable more time to be dedicated to MessageWeek film production, and we anticipate becoming more effective in this ministry than ever before.

April 19, 2009 Pictured at left is: Phil Kordahi, David Kidd, Bill Hicks, John Klassek and Ramon Ruiz Garza. The first community screening of "Lest We Forget" was also shown this weekend at church services, and with a few more edits, this latest and timely film should be ready for streaming and download by next weekend.

March 14, 2009 That's okay. We're not trying to emulate what we've come to expect from the film industry in "Hollywood". We're simply using whatever resources are available to share the good news message. Dig a little deeper, and you'll discover God at work. And that's so amazing and encouraging. We've just upgraded to new studio lighting, and the photo to the right shows the film studio as it currently is. Move your mouse arrow over the photo, and you'll see a view of the new lights from the other direction.

We're in the process of upgrading our studio lighting, and this is exciting to see happen after eleven years using baking paper over a variety of off-the-shelf lighting! Be sure to write, call or email, and let us know what you think. We value your comments and feedback. |
|
February 25, 2009 We have uploaded two more short films to YouTube this week, "The God of our Imagination", and "The Sabbath Experience". This week we have finally ordered some new soft-lights for our studio work. We have improvised for many years using baking paper filtering a range of domestic lights; the new lights will be a significant improvement.
Still, it was an "apprenticeship" worthy of every moment. (Sorry, I can't recall where this site of historical and archaeological significance was in Israel. If you can shed some light on this, please let us know).

To quote from the narrative: "Some people say they tend to see the God of the Old Testament as a bit too patriarchal and jealous at times. He seems, well, a bit mean, and ever ready with retribution." We hope you find this film thought provoking and helpful, and we welcome your comments and impressions.

November 29, 2008 Pictured at left a few weeks ago, now the upper floor beams are in place we continue work on the foundations. The floor has since been completed. We've also been working on two new film transcripts, and the first one of these should be ready soon. We've found it challenging in the past few months catching up with some MessageWeek debt incurred over the past few years. Taking on a large IT contract in order to help offset this debt also consumes time. Serving the Lord is a work of faith. He alone provides for our daily needs, and on that note we welcome this opportunity as yet another step of faith along the journey. We are delighted to report that work on our new book "The Hope of the Resurrection" is progressing well, and God willing, should be ready for publishing next year.

October 23, 2008 The Feast of Tabernacles this year, celebrating Jesus Christ, was truly fantastic, with inspiring worship, great fellowship and blessing all around. Thanks to all at CESA.

September 27, 2008 Thanks be to our Lord Jesus Christ. We plant, we water, but it is God who gives the growth.

September 20, 2008 Hope you had a blessed Sabbath rest today, even as we did. We can be so glad for the gift of rest God gives us each week. Pictured (at right) is one of the steel columns being lifted into place for what will become a suitable meeting area, serving not only the upcoming film interviews, but also for Sabbath gatherings. Most of the 360 short films we've produced over the past ten years have been with the aid of a teleprompter, either using a laptop or, when on-location, a scrolling mechanism a friend made for us. The teleprompter has always been a welcome crutch. I have learned to ever so subtly refer to it during filming while keeping my eyes focussed on the camera lens, which if you're interested is an acquired art. However, when I gained some hints and tips at a Television Presenters Course some years ago, we were encouraged to present to the camera without any prompting notes whatsoever. If you've never done this before, it is really challenging! But it can be done, as I've discovered. Earlier this year one of my daughters created a multimedia presentation using our studio equipment, and I was amazed how she could talk directly into the camera without any notes. She was able to recall and articulate entire paragraphs of well developed ideas without even the slightest hesitation. Initially I attributed it to her youth and above-average intellect. Since then, it has however been playing on my conscience! And today, we recorded "Do You Believe?" without any teleprompting notes. But it didn't happen the first time; the version being uploaded here was definitely not our first take. We pray that this new film is a blessing to you. The nature of the internet can bring it own surprises. After preaching the good message for over ten years, I am amazed at how much this ministry has grown in recent months. Some films seem to be watched more than others. For example, a sermon I shared in 2005 titled "Love and Marriage" has been downloaded over 700 times this month.

By way of technical update: we have now migrated our film editing suite to Adobe Premiere CS3, and are delighted with the workflow results.
|
|
August 29, 2008 When we finally filmed it, we just couldn't "tell the story" in one minute. Never mind. The coincidence with this film is that within a few weeks we'll be noting another date on our annual calendar - Father's Day. There's so much to be lived and shared on the subject of Fatherhood. And so in this very short film we ask, "Do you know who your Father is?" Because unless you know who your Father is, you'll never really know who you are, and you won't know the inheritance that awaits you!

July 23, 2008 However, this isn't the norm worldwide. Illiteracy still exists, and we pay tribute to those who dedicate their time and resources to help bring education and care to those who would otherwise never receive it.

We also took the opportunity to begin upgrading to a better server rack. Pictured is the delivery and setup of the server rack. The rack will better facilitate the server and general servicing. We're also looking at upgrading our server uplink. The Gospel began to reach various parts of the world some 2000 years ago via dusty roads and wooden sailing ships. Stories of Jesus were transmitted from parchments by the literate and told everywhere. With the invention of the printing press, Bibles eventually became available, and wider education meant more people could read. Early last century, radio together with print media proved effective in sharing the gospel. Television has also played a role. Perhaps surpassing everything to date, the internet has revolutionised the way we acquire information and the way we communicate. And, media streaming to date has only just "scratched the surface" of what yet lies ahead. MessageWeek has been a part of that revolution, having produced over 360 good news, short, streaming films over the past decade. From PNG to the Netherlands, Germany to South Africa, Thailand to Portugal, it is a unique perspective to know that someone's faith has been strengthened by the "best news you could ever hear".

May 13, 2008 The Shepherd and the sheep appear throughout scripture, and it's a theme worth exploring yet again. We hope you find this next film inspiring and of benefit. We have finally completed filming (with the most amazing part having chanced upon a baby lamb being born), and are now working on the editing/production. We will also present a copy of a recent sermon which further explores this remarkable subject in greater detail. We anticipate the film "The Lamb of God" to be ready within two weeks. Most of the media hosted here is in various video formats, although we do feature low bandwidth audio streams. Another excellent online resource, featuring inspiring and balanced Bible teaching in MP3 audio format, is at the Born to Win website. Australian listeners may also subscribe to a free CD program from Christian Educational Services. Highly recommended!

March 19, 2008 In reflecting about the work of MessageWeek over the past decade, we have focussed on three areas of distinction – perhaps not intentionally – but they have been subjects that deserve extra exploration:
The three "R"s of Resurrection, Rest and Return are perhaps more important than what credit they are generally given. They centre on Jesus Christ, are crucial to salvation history, are filled with extraordinary hope, and in some theological discussions are conspiciously negleted.

March 14, 2008 While we have just uploaded this new film, we will be re-filming it again next week. Although we have already shot this film three times already, the lastest version, while quite satisfactory in High Definition, does not stream very well in compressed formats because of the movement in the background gum tree leaves. By way of background to this week's work: we decided that the first film location was unsuitable due to lighting. The next location in a park was visited by a large flock of white cockatoos, and their screeching in the tree fronds above made filming impossible. Another location at a nearby park we visited was marred by the background hum of a nearby factory. We then filmed from a lookout late one afternoon, but the lighting was poor and the presentation generally flat. The filming in front of the typical Australian gum trees went well, but technically results in excessive lossy artefacts when streaming. That, however, does not detract from the message itself -- one of the most important and timely you could ever hear. Jesus is coming.

February 23, 2008 Producing a half hour film isn't beyond our scope as most of this material has already been presented over the past ten years. The challenge we would have in producing, say, a thirteen week series of half hour films is, (1) being able to purchase competitve TV programming, and (2) having to facilitate the rolling back, to some degree, of our IT work. For this we again rely on the Lord's timing and provision. This year we excited about also produce several 30 second promos, both for media streaming and for local televison use. Recently we purchased the following items to help with MessageWeek work: (1) a new presenter's suit coat with no hint of blue (as we often film using a chroma blue screen and the darker blue of our older suit often caused chroma anomalies that were difficult to edit); (2) and an LCD HD screen which replaces our old CRT monitor. We look forward to continuing, in faith, finding relevant and meaningful ways to authentically share and articulate the greatest and only hope we have - the good news that centres on Jesus Christ.

January 26, 2008 You might find an article by Ron Dart of interest. Australia Day is an opportunity to reflect on who we really are and the blessings we've been afforded. Gifts of health, prosperity and freedom - are they ours by chance or do such blessings entail responsibilty? Today has also been, coincidentally, Sabbath. If you have rested today, may you equally experience the rest of God - the blessing of "the peace of God that passes all understanding that keeps our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus". With two new films under production, make sure you visit MessageWeek again soon. We are currently filming "I Am Coming Soon".

December 11, 2007 Once the gospel travelled by foot on dusty Middle Eastern roads. It then plied the Mediterranean in wooden sailing ships. It took a new course with the advent of the printing press. Then with media, like television, new previously unimagined opportunities for the gospel became available. Finally, the development of the computer together with the internet in recent years heralded yet another age of communication. And so, our early 1997-98 films were filmed using a grainy web cam, a $5 microphone and uploaded on an erratic 28k dialup connection. How excited we were when someone donated a broken VHS camera - which aside from the green pixelation in the centre of the image still meant significant quality improvement!
We sincerely want to thank all individuals and churches who have blessed us over the years. A special thanks goes to the Worldwide Church of God friends who helped financially and accepted the opportunity to open an office and film studio in Perth. Thanks to all who occasionally presented, all who donated time and energy in proof reading, and those who also helped financially. Thanks more recently to the Church of God (Seventh Day) for their overwhelming blessing and support. As we take stock of the pioneering work of the past, and ponder what the next decade holds, perhaps any sense of achievement best be credited to God's grace and providence in laying the foundation - and providing for the best yet to come. We invite you to join us for an evening journey covering the past ten years, as we reflect on the nature of sharing the gospel using relevant methods. Featuring PowerPoint, videos and just good story telling, you can look forward to an enjoyable evening at: 7.00 - 9.00pm, Thursday 27th Dec 2007 at the Portland Civic Hall, in Portland, Victoria.

August 8, 2007 It's a film that will both challenge and encourage you in your journey through sometimes "stormy seas". In recent weeks, our joy in the Lord has increased, especially considering the "great crowd of witnesses" who encompass us with prayers of support and affirmation.

July 16, 2007 Not only has the Lord has provided the funds to travel there, but also the blessings of inspiring worship and fellowship, sound biblical teaching and preaching, as well as quality mentoring and discipling. May 12, 2007 So where did the triune concept come from? Is it a valid belief, or does it go beyond what scripture tells us? It is worth a careful study of the scriptures. The Holy Spirit given to us will take what is Jesus' and make it known. "I and the Father are one," said Jesus. (John 10:30) This is what the ancients believed, what Jesus taught, and what we believe today. Some years ago we presented a MessageWeek film clip on the subject of the Trinity, and did so very carefully considering the theological shifts within the context we were working in. This weblog simply asks those questions again, this time a little more directly. We are currently researching and producing another short film on this pivotal subject. There's quite a lot of reading available on the Internet on the subject.
http://www.2001translation.com/Trinity.html
http://www.revelations.org.za/WrongTrinity.htm
http://cfmin.wordpress.com/2007/04/24/trinity-part-05-scriptures-that-are-used-to-support-the-trinity-doctrine/ The reoccurring assertion in many of the above articles is that the triune nature of God is not supported in scripture, but was added later, as formalised by Constantine.

April 16, 2007 "Jesus Christ is my saviour, mentor, friend, Lord and God, redeemer and King. My life only exists because He is. Any sense of meaning for me personally only exits because He is. It’s his will that motivates and shapes every day, and his promises that give us hope. I believe His words, as faithfully recorded in the Holy Bible. He is the truth, and the only way." (Producer)

September 14, 2006 Either by coincidence or design, we weren't able to re-film in the same location at Garvey Park. As we set up the equipment, we noticed a tractor mower at work in the distance, and when we were ready to film, a flock of noisy lorikeets alighted in a tree above. As soon as we started recording, a bulldozer in the distance started work and its reversing beeps could be clearly heard. We then found a quieter location further up the Swan River in Guildford. Quote of the week: "The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force." |

| January 2006 The latest 15 minute film "Intelligent Design" has returned mixed responses. While most have expressed appreciation, a couple of responses reflected ecclesiastical dismay. Interestingly, this has been our most watched video for some time. |
| December 2005 In eight years media streaming we have produced 340 free online videos. Although currently we're not tied to a weekly production cycle, the work in research, filming, post production and server maintenance has increased. We believe that the content streamed from MessageWeek.com has benefited enormously from the ongoing cycle of evaluation and best work practices. |
